Mayor, Wife Fete Club Mr. and Mr*. Ed Hales recently were hosts to the Friday Night Couples Bridge Club at their home on Church Street. Summer flower arrangements were used. Club members playing were Mr. and Mrs. Amos Estes, Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kannon and Dr. and Mrs. George Tucker. High score prize was taken by Dr. and Mrs. Tucker, and the low score prize was pre sented to Mr. and Mrs. Kannon. The hosts served a dessert course following the close of three pro gressions. Rustic furniture can be pro tected from insects if given a coat of varnish. Honored Frank Kemp was honored at a banquet Friday, May 24, at For syth Country Club in Winston Salem. He was one of several North Carolina Lions honored for their work with the Eye Bank. Kemp, a prominent Zebulon Lion, was presented a silver tray. The speaker for the evening was a prominent Philadelphian who told of the importance of the work with the Eye Bank. Kemp was district chairman of the Eye Bank for District 31G in 1962-63. He recruited 1,000 eyes for the bank. The previous year only 64 eyes were donated. He was accompanied to the ban quet by his wife, Nelle, and two sons, Terry and Timmy. A color scheme of pink was used in re freshments and decorations. The honoree was presented a corsage of pink carnations. The refreshment table was dec orated with ivy, pink burning ta pers, and a miniature bride. Background music welcomed the guests, and following bridal games and gift opening, refresh ments of raspberry sherbet float, pink and green bridal cakes, pea nuts and cheese straws were serv ed.
